Riot Games’ announced its new free-to-play strategy card game called “Legends of Runeterra”(LoR) is finally coming on April 30th. According to Riot, LoR will launch with a brand new set of 120+ cards, including a new region!
Legends of Runeterra is currently available in open beta and pre-registration is available. The game can be downloaded on their website. This strategy card game takes place in the world’s famous game “League of Legends” universe and will include characters from League of Legends in its card decks, each having “their own style and strategic advantage” according to Riot. This is much similar to another famous strategy card game “Hearthstone”, which has characters from “Warcraft” in its card decks.
According to Riot, card and champion reveals will begin soon and continue through launch. There will be no content wipe, you’ll keep everything you’ve earned or purchased. The best feature about LoR is that it is available on Cross-Platform ie on both PC and Mobile. You can play and earn rewards on both platforms. The beta season will end starting a new Ranked season.
Riot said, “In this game, skill, creativity, and cleverness will determine your success”. Card & champion reveals will begin soon & continue through April 27th. The next set of cards comes to PC with Patch 1.0, which will go out at approximately 10 AM, April 28 PT. Also, LoR will not be launching in China or Vietnam at this time. LoR is currently not supported on Mac OS. Full specs click here.
Players can spend real money to acquire cards in LoR or they can acquire them through gameplay. “Shards” are earned through gameplay while “Coins” can be purchased with real money. To unlock new cards and content in LoR, players can complete quests to earn experience that in turn unlocks new cards. The game has different “regions,” selected by the player and each has different cards.
Each week, LoR will add new chests called the Vault. “The Vault levels up as you play and upgrades the chests inside, which increases the number of cards you get from each. Individually, both the cards and chests have a chance to upgrade into something even better, and at level 10 and above, you’re guaranteed a champion,” Riot said.
Featured cards called “wildcards.” are rare cards that can be turned into any card you want. A “limited” number of these wildcards will be available in the store each week.
“We know that sometimes you just want a guaranteed way to get specific cards. So instead of waiting for the right drop, you can unlock cards for your collection using the Shards you’ve earned or the wildcards you’ve acquired through play or purchase,” Riot said. The company also said it is limiting their ability to “ensure you always have something you’re looking forward to unlocking, and that you’re constantly discovering new cards and strategies.”
The company said “In Legends of Runeterra, you will never pay for randomized packs, and you have a bunch of different ways to get the cards you actually want and build multiple decks for both casual duels and the competitive meta,”
Riot also added: “Slowing down how quickly the entire set of cards can be unlocked is one method for helping us accomplish that goal. There’s a lot more to it than that, so expect to see an article soon that dives deep into how card acquisition will work in LoR.”
So get ready for “Legends of Runeterra” coming on April 30th.
